This week we attended the North Dakota Association of Nonprofit Organizations’ (NDANO) Leadership Conference in Bismarck, North Dakota and shared our thoughts on the hottest topic at the event, how to drive better fundraising with donor management. Members, speakers and exhibitors collaborated on how to improve and enhance fundraising in times of boom and bust. The keynote speaker Kim Klein reminded nonprofit organizations of North Dakota “You may not feel the impact of the economic bust until one or two years after it has happened. Plan ahead as this is when you will see your normal funding streams affected.” Now more than ever you need to manage your donor data more effectively as you may have to work harder and differently to replace lost funding. We were thrilled to have the opportunity to tell attendees how our solution, Peak NFP for Microsoft Dynamics CRM, can help! Peak NFP drives increased donations and also supports building constituent relationships. This solution can help nonprofits remove the future stress of lost funding through strategic donor management. Multi-channel Engagement Kim Klein encouraged nonprofit leaders to use multiple channels of communication to reach donors and really think about and profile who you are trying to reach instead of focusing on everyone or those of great wealth. You need a couple things to do this effectively – 1. Data about your donors and 2. A solution that makes it easy for both you and your donors to engage. Let’s start with data, think demographic information, email address, phone number, etc. so you can use multiple channels of communication to reach your donors. Don’t use just one – try gathering this information so you can engage with your donors the way they prefer. Speaking of preference – have the ability to use multiple channels that fit your profile donors; email, phone, Facebook, Twitter, website extension (portal), website, etc. and make sure you have a donor management system like Peak NFP that allows you to do this efficiently and effectively. Make Great Goals Lastly, Kim Klein said “Set your goals high so you can truly achieve your mission at a level that makes donors feel good about donating to the cause rather than meeting the bare minimums.” Keep your goals visible internally and externally. Dashboards within Peak NFP and via the self-serve portal allow you to do this with real time insight into your personal giving and in relationship to the overall goa, providing instant insight to your donors and your leadership team.
